Helpful Hints

This is up to the amount you paid for your horse. If your horse is home bred or has increased in value the sum insured must be agreed with the Underwriters.

For horses aged under 6 months or over 15 years please contact us for a quote.

    Death or Theft Cover

You must have this cover if you wish to have vets fee cover.

Provides cover for the amount insured if your horse dies from natural causes or is put down for humane reasons.

A vets certificate may be required for horses valued over £5,000 or if they have been owned but uninsured for over 6 months.

    Permanent Incapacity

Cover is provided in case your horse suffers an accident or illness which prevents him/her fulfilling the purpose for which they were insured.

Cover is 100% if you elect to have the horse put down or 75% if you elect to keep the horse as a pet.

A purchasers vets certificate is required for horses valued £3,000 or over and if £10,000 or over x-rays of the knees, hocks and front feet are required.

    Vets Fees

Choose between up to £3,000 per occurrence, excess £125 per claim or up to £2,500 per occurrence, excess £300 per claim or, if your horse is valued over £1500, up to £5,000 per occurrence, excess £300 per claim. Cover includes alternative therapies upon recommendation from your vet.

There is a 25% co-insurance clause on claims including MRI and bone (scinitgraphy) scans. This means that you will have to pay 25% of the cost of these scans on top of your excess.

An option provided by Carriagehouse to enable you to pay the least amount of premiums for a good level of cover is our Catastrophe Fee option. This provides up to either £2,500 or £5,000 per occurrence with an excess of £300 per claim. Although is it called catastrophe cover, this is only due to the higher excess level and does not relate to the types of claims paid. The higher excess level does mean that the premium for the £2,500 cover is approximately £100 less per year than the standard £3,000 vets fee cover, per horse or donkey.

    Legal liability

Third Party cover to £1,000,000 per occurrence.

    Personal Accident

Cover to £10,000 for accidental death or a permanent disability, as a result of a riding/driving accident with the insured horse.

Cover includes up to £1,500 towards dental fees. There is a £100 excess on dental fee claims.

    Tack

Cover includes accidental damage, fire damage and theft provided the theft occurs from a securely locked building. All saddlery items over £250 need to be specified on your schedule; otherwise the maximum value payable is £500 per item. Carriages and harness are on an agreed value basis, and this usually is based on the current market value. On high value items, a copy of the purchase invoice or a valuation may be requested in order to agree the value with you.

    No Claims Bonus

This is accumulative for each year your horse has been been insured by you without needing veterinary treatment.
The maximum available is 3 years.

If your horse has needed any veterinary treatment, this must be declared prior to incepting a policy. Certain conditions may apply depending on the treatment received. Please contact the Carriagehouse office for further details. See policy wordings for full details regarding the cover provided.

If you would like further information and/or a more detailed quotation, please e-mail us or ring the office.

Veteran Horse Cover

For horses aged 25 and above, we are only able to offer legal liability cover, but the cover we can offer is summarised below. For a quote on your veteran please give us a ring.

Thankfully, these days, horses seem to live and work longer. This is primarily because the vast majority live as pampered pets but also because the advances in veterinary treatment and knowledge has meant that we can treat various illness and injuries, which in the past would have proved fatal.

With this in mind, we are now able to offer cover for horses over 15 years of age and are delighted to quote for them.

For horses aged between 16 and 19 we can offer death/theft cover and vets fee cover to either £1,500 per claim with an excess of £125 per claim or £2500 per claim with a £300 excess. The cover excludes Cushings Disease, navicular and degenerative diseases such as arthritis and degenerative joint diseases.

For horses aged between 20 and 24 we can offer death/theft cover and vets fee cover to £1,000 per occurrence with an excess of £100 per claim. The cover provided is limited to accidental and external injuries only.
