THEFT

ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE OR FIRE

Theft, particularly of carriages and trailers, is an ever-increasing problem, and this is why there are specific requirements on your policy regarding the security of these items. Please see our answer in FAQ regarding security for details of what our policies require.

However, if you have the misfortune to be burgled, there are certain things that you must do either because your policy required them of you or because they will help us with processing your claim as quickly as possible.

  • You must ring the Police and report the burglary to them. You will need a crime reference number for your claim form. Obviously you must follow any instructions that they have regarding their investigations.
  • Please report the claim using the form within this site or ring us as soon as practicable on 01206 337388. We will confirm if the item(s) stolen are listed by your insurance and then send you a claim form
  • You must establish what has been stolen and how the break-in occurred.
  • If possible, please take photos of any property that has been damaged i.e. Locks, doors, windows, gates etc

Once you have received your claim form, please fully complete and return it to us as soon as possible. It may be that we need to appoint a loss adjuster to visit you and we will need the form to help us decide whether or not this is necessary. Upon receipt of this we will then be able to confirm whether or not the claim is covered by the policy and if it is, you will be sent a release form. This form transfers ownership of the property to the Underwriters in the event that it is found.

You then sign and return the form and once the police  and/or our loss adjuster have finished their investigations, we can settle the claim.

If, at any time during the above process, we discover any reason why the claim may be declined, we will of course contact and advise you immediately

If you are involved in an accident or a fire that causes damage to your insured property, please contact us as soon as possible and we will send you a claim form. You will have to obtain an estimate to either confirm the cost of the repairs or that the repairs are uneconomic if the vehicle is to be a total loss.

These estimates can be from your choice of carriage manufacturer or repairer or for harness/tack your choice of saddler. You need to submit these with your claim form.It is sometimes a good idea to also submit photos of the damage.

It is possible that with certain claims, we may appoint loss assessors to visit you to look at the damage and to assist with processing your claim.

HOW TO MAKE A CLAIM

The first thing to do is take a look at your Policy Schedule to make sure that you have cover for the section you wish to claim for, such as legal liability cover for a third party claim, or vets fee cover if your horse or donkey becomes lame.Take special note of any exclusions that may be in the notes section on the Schedule. While you have your Policy Schedule in front of you, make a note of your policy number and ensure the claim is within your policy year.

For any potential claim, it is your responsibility as the insured to advise Carriagehouse Insurance at the earliest possible time. This may be done by telephone or email. Once we have been advised,It is up to you whether or not you then submit the claim; but, if you decide not to, it is a good idea to let us know so that we can close the claim file.
